Coconut Oil Health Benefits

TweetPinShareYummly

Virgin coconut oil has been used by our grandparents to soothe tired muscles and heal certain ailments. And the practice is not exclusive to the Philippines. Ayuverdic Indian medicine has likewise used it as treatment for malabsorption.

What does coconut oil contain that gives it such “miraculous” properties?

Medical research has shown that it boost the immune system. Coconut oil, specifically virgin coconut oil, is a good source of lauric acid, which promotes health and is an adjunct treatment to viral diseases. Coconut oil is said to contain a unique form of saturated fat that helps prevent heart disease, stroke, and hardening of the arteries.

There are many different types of saturated fat acid and each has a different effect on the body. The one found in coconut oil is unlike the fat found in human breast milk called medium fatty acids ( MCFA). These special fatty acid have been shown to stimulate the metabolism, improve digestion, strengthen the immune system, and protect against bacterial, viral and fungal infections as well as protect the heart and arteries from conditions that cause heart disease.

This oil detoxifies the body. Numerous study show that the high lauric acid content is beneficial by attacking viruses and bacteria. It also builds the body’s immune system just as human mother’s milk does (which contains lauric acid ). It should be taken orally (one tablespoon, 3x a day). Those who can’t take its taste can mix the oil with hot rice, coffee, milk or tea. The oil enhances the flavor of food.

In fact, HIV infected moms in South Africa who take it are allowed to breast feed their newborns because the lauric acid is believed to prevent the transfer of the virus.

Likewise, it may be used for cooking, body and massage revitalizer, and hair conditioner. It is ideal for cooking due to its ability to remain whole without losing its chemical composition despite exposure to high temperature. It can also be used as salad dressing.

Coconut, common name for the fruit of a tree of the palm family, widely distributed in tropical regions like the Philippines. The abundance of coconuts in our country’s provinces like Batangas, Bicol, Leyte makes an ideal source for producing virgin coconut oil. This is also a primary reason why we could sell this product cheaper.
